Couples Therapy in Thousand Oaks
I’m Emily Chane, LMFT. I help couples with recurring conflict, emotional distance and differences in communication, including relationships where one or both partners are neurodivergent. Couples therapy is available in Thousand Oaks and online across California; sessions are $210 for 60 minutes and private pay.
Different wiring, the same longing.
You both want to feel close, and you keep missing each other in the same spot. Most couples who reach out aren’t fighting about the dishes. They’re having the same argument in different clothes, and neither person feels heard by the end of it. We slow it down and look at what’s underneath.
Who I work with
- Feeling unheard or criticized
- The same fight on repeat
- Different needs for closeness and space
- Sensory and communication differences
- Ruptures in trust or connection
- Emotional distance
- Life transitions and big decisions
- Premarital questions
When your brains work differently
When one or both of you are neurodivergent, or you aren’t sure, small differences add up. One of you needs to talk it through now. The other needs quiet first. One reads silence as rejection, while the other was trying to regulate. We look at those different needs and communication styles alongside what each of you needs to feel secure, so neither of you gets cast as the problem.
My approach
My approach is warm, direct and grounded in attachment and family systems. We map the cycle you keep getting caught in, understand the needs underneath it and practice repairing ruptures when they happen. Needing space isn’t the same as not caring, and we make room for both.
Questions about couples therapy
How much does couples therapy cost?
Couples therapy is $210 for a 60-minute session and is private pay. I provide a monthly superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan and service; check with your insurer before counting on reimbursement.
Do you work with neurodivergent couples?
Yes. I work with couples where one or both partners are neurodivergent, including ADHD, autism or uncertainty about a diagnosis. We explore communication, sensory needs and emotional pacing without treating one partner as the problem.
Can we meet online?
Yes. I offer couples therapy by secure video for clients located in California, as well as in-person sessions at 50 W Hillcrest Drive, Suite 206, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360.
What happens in couples therapy?
We look at the cycle you keep getting caught in, the needs underneath it and how each person communicates and regulates. Together we practice clearer requests, pauses and repair after conflict.
