Young Adult Therapy in Thousand Oaks

Figuring out who you are, without losing yourself.

You’re supposed to have it figured out by now. At least that’s how it feels. Maybe you’re in college, starting a first job or moving out, and the pressure to get it right never lets up. Maybe you were diagnosed with ADHD or autism recently, or you’re starting to wonder. Maybe you love your parents and they still drive you up the wall. Maybe you’re not sure where you fit. Therapy is a place to sort through it without having to perform.

Who I work with

Common reasons young adults reach out:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Perfectionism
  • School and work pressure
  • Depression
  • Life transitions
  • Identity and belonging
  • ADHD or autism, diagnosed or wondering
  • Friendships and dating
  • Social skills, on your terms
  • Relationships with parents
  • Becoming independent

Your family, from a new angle

Growing up changes your relationship with your parents. You want independence, you still want closeness, and those two pull against each other. We look at the patterns you learned at home and decide what you want to keep, change or let go of. If it would help, a parent joins a session or two.

My approach

My approach is warm, direct and relational, with some humor. We look at what’s happening now and the patterns underneath it, so you leave with a clearer sense of yourself and practical ways to handle what’s in front of you, including tools from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). My work is neurodivergent-affirming, so if ADHD or autism is part of your story, or you’re wondering, there’s room for that too, including how growing up misunderstood shaped the way you connect now.

Questions

Common questions

Do my parents have to be involved?

No. Young adult therapy is your space. If you want to work on the relationship with a parent, we talk about whether bringing them into a session or two would help, and it’s always your call.

I’m in my thirties. Is this for me?

Yes. I see young adults into their mid-thirties. If you’re still figuring out who you are and where you fit, you’re in the right place.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. I see clients by secure video anywhere in California, which helps if you’re away at college or working long hours. I also see clients in person in Thousand Oaks.

Do I need an ADHD or autism diagnosis?

No. Many young adults start therapy while still wondering. I’d be happy to provide referrals for neuropsychological testing if that’s something you’d like to pursue.
